What you're describing is about where I am with my handstands day to day. I'm trying to grow braver too.
Practicing techniques for overbalancing and "bailing" from a handstand helped me, as did making one day a week the "hard day" challenge. It's still difficult, and that means I don't have to come up with something else to do on Mondays for a while :)
I've heard of the book. Not had a chance to read it yet.
I thought of you and this conversation while doing my "hard stuff" this morning. It helped, especially because I was reminded that progress isn't linear.
I imagined you cheering me on while I struggled...so thank you for the company. :)

@Remittancegirl I know that there is a strain of thought out there (sometimes led by Steven Pinker) that tries to reassure us that we are materially so much better than we were a hundred years ago, and two hundred years ago.
@Remittancegirl But if I limit myself just to the focus of the subject on social media, the internet has made possible that at the same time hundreds of millions or even billions of us become aware and more empathic towards the excesses and pmigbts of other humans. At the same time condemned by the responsibility that entails being rational beings with ethics and knowing. Everything coming at you at once some days.
The biggest life hack and organizing superpower anyone will have is tolerating emotional risk/ discomfort and learning to repair after conflict.
Which is why organizing when everyone has AI robots in their pocket validating their every thought and impulse... is... not great.

@catsalad A true girlboss would of course have worked with the girlunion from the get-go, encouraging the girlunionisation of her girlworkforce, never letting it get as far as necessitating a girlstrike.

longtermism is the reductio ad absurdum of utilitarianism
question: when thinking about maximising 'good' for future generations isn't it those generations' sense of `good' that is relevant, not mine?
how does longtermism deal with this issue?
unless you assume that the relevant `good' is universal that seems like a major difficulty....
and if you assume what is `good' is universal, how is that and how do you know that, and isn't that what ethics would need to tell you?

Netzpolitik was at the court hearing and has all the details on the ruling in my case against the Malta Gaming Authority. And why this verdict is a big deal.
Time to start another Star Trek baby quilt. I’m contemplating on which design to start next. #quilting #babyquilt
Norway's 2026 whaling season is over. 418 minke whales were killed. But that number doesn't include the unborn calves who died with their mothers. Around 40% of whales killed in Norway are pregnant.

I saw this book recommended somewhere and i thought I'd wait for Language Jones' review of it. Turns out, I'm glad I skipped buying it 😅 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z5TXctHcSA

I remember a story about a man who destroyed a library, not by burning it or tearing it down but instead by organizing it.
He alphabetized everything. Every letter, every symbol, every sound and signal, were placed in perfect order.
On the first shelves the books contained nothing but the letter A, every letter A that was ever written, miles down in the stacks you'd reach the Bs.
Any one remember where this was from?
A people with no history are not "a people" they are labor, customers, automata subject to the whims of the markets and the people who drive those markets.
It's obvious that burning the library, burning the books is wrong. We understand that words written by people we can never meet, people who are far away or long gone can make each of us more powerful.
But what if the fire that consumes your library is instead a torrent of nonsense? Fire is only one kind of entropy.
« Nous faisons grève pour la population » : les pompiers mobilisés pour arracher plus de moyens
Après un été dévastateur, révélateur du manque criant de moyens, le projet de loi présenté par le gouvernement aux pompiers professionnels le 8 septembre n’a fait qu’attiser leur colère. En grève depuis trois semaines, ils ont installé un campement au Champ-de-Mars dimanche 27 septembre, prologue de deux journées de manifestation.
